About the 1:24 RX-7
The RX-7 is the drift car of the 1990s, and this shell is a retro take on it: pop-up-style headlamps, the wide rear arches and the ducktail spoiler. What sets it apart from the other drift cars is the smoke: a small reservoir under the body puffs a harmless water vapour from the exhaust when you press a button on the controller, which makes a hand-brake turn look like the real thing.
Under the shell is the same 4WD drift chassis with slick tyres and a proportional 2.4 GHz radio, running to 20 km/h. LED headlights are wired in. The battery charges over USB in about an hour for 20 to 30 minutes of running; the controller takes two AA cells that are not included. Spare tyres and a small bottle for the smoke reservoir are in the box.
It is the drift car people pick when they have seen a video of one, and the one that gets a reaction at a party.
Living with a 1:24 RC car
At 1:24 the model is around 19 cm long, compact enough for a desk and big enough for the doors to open and the dashboard to be readable. This is the scale to buy if you want a few cars rather than one, and the pull-back motor and lights make it the safest choice for a young enthusiast.
