About the BMW XM 1:18
The XM divides opinion, which is exactly why it makes a good model: the split headlights, the enormous octagonal kidney grille and the twin stacked exhausts are all here at a size where you can decide for yourself. It is a plug-in hybrid with a 4.4-litre V8 and an electric motor, and the model reproduces the charge flap on the front wing as well as the fuel flap on the rear.
The grille is a separate chromed frame with the black mesh behind it, and the M badge sits in the mesh rather than being printed on. Four doors open. The rear seat is the XM's lounge-style bench with the deep quilting printed on it, and the headliner is modelled with its three-dimensional pattern. The bonnet lifts over the V8. Wheels are the 23-inch two-tone design and the front pair steer.
This is the largest BMW model we sell and the one with the most opening parts. If you want something that stops people at the shelf, this does it.
Living with a 1:18 scale model
At 1:18 this is a large model, roughly a ruler's length, and it is built as a display piece rather than a toy. Expect metal body panels with proper hinges, a carpeted or textured floor inside, and a finished engine bay under the bonnet. Give it about 30 cm of shelf width and lift it by the roof or chassis, not the bumpers.
