About the Defender 1:16
The Defender shape at a size and speed for a younger child: 24 cm long, 8 cm wide and 9 cm tall, with the square body, the side-mounted spare and the Alpine windows all present. The plastic body takes knocks without damage, and the speed is set for a living room rather than a driveway.
It drives forward, backward, left and right on a 2.4 GHz radio that pairs to its own car, so it can run alongside the Range Rover in the same scale. Working headlights, a USB charging cable and the controller are in the box; the controller takes AA cells, not included. The box is 31 by 12 by 12 cm if you are wrapping it.
It is the RC car we suggest for a five-year-old, and the plastic-bodied companion to the metal-bodied Defender RC with smoke.
Living with a 1:16 RC car
This is a remote control car first and a model second: the body is plastic to keep weight down and the chassis carries the battery and steering servo. It charges over USB and runs for 20 to 30 minutes per charge.
